Willy Alfaro

Willy Alfaro served as Director of the Trade Policies Review Division at the World Trade Organization (WTO) from 2014 to 2023. With more than 35 years of experience in international trade, Alfaro joined GATT in 1989 and, in addition to directing the WTO's Trade and Environment Division and its External Relations Division, held various positions in the cabinets of WTO Directors-General Renato Ruggiero and Supachai Panitchpakdi. As Director of the Trade Policies Review Division, he oversaw more than 200 Trade Policy Reviews and contributed to the WTO's trade-monitoring work following the global financial crisis. Prior to his retirement, he led the WTO Secretariat's work on its 2030 Vision and Strategy. He holds a bachelor's degree in Economics and a master's degree in Econometrics from the University of Geneva.
